Law Library - Book Nook Kit

Went together well! Instructions were detailed and in color. Would buy again!

I received the Abbey Library as a gift - it was my first book nook but won't be my last. I very much enjoyed this project. It was challenging at times but not frustrating. I found the instructions easy to follow and the pieces sturdy and well fitted. I love all the little details and it looks great on my shelf. I will definitely be getting another one from this brand.

This book nook kit is just stunning - I LOVE the beautiful "lace" looking railing on it. WOW! So - this comes with pressed wood sheets, clear glue, a small mallet hammer, a nail file, and metal slanted tweezers. It sort of felt like I put together a million books with this kit, but I started counting and it's not nearly that many. But of course it IS a library, and a law library at that.... so there are a lot. Just be aware of this! Luckily they are the "sticker" type of book covers, so you don't have to glue them all on! Just stick.This kit (while detailed) was really easy to put together so far. I'm almost done with it, but I did want to go ahead and post the progress. This is one of those for me that my fingers were a bit sore at time from pressing pieces together (take care doing that!) later. I'm going to go back to the lace-looking railings. I think this kit is just stunning. I can't say that enough! The detail along with the solid build is a definite bonus in kits of this type.I personally keep a miniature tool kit to work on kits like this (and the 3d puzzle/dollhouse ones, as well). In it, I keep: an awl, screwdrivers, various metal files, razor knife, paper scissors, needle and threads, embroidery scissors, sandpaper, wood putty, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, regular pliers, small medium and large clamps, a rubber mallet, etc, etc. The list goes on. Each thing in the kit is there because i needed it at some point (more with the dollhouse style than anything, those can get complex). I also keep a kit of various colors of permanent markers for "touch ups" when I've accidentally torn a sliver out of something so it removes the color from the piece. I've used those a LOT. I guess I'm clumsy!The instruction book that comes with this is large (so the drawings are large!) color, and on glossy paper. It says on the front "Iowa State Capitol Library". So... apparently this beautiful law library is modeled after this? I think I'd love to see it one day if so! While spiral staircases can be a bit tricky to make, they are truly beautiful when done. So - the booklet has drawings rather than pictures, which does make detail more difficult to see sometimes in the drawings - the orientation of how something is supposed to face or color can be lost. I have had no issue with that in this booklet, however, at all. Good!This would make a wonderful gift in my opinion for a lawyer (either completed, or for them to build as a hobby!), or library enthusiast. Book nook building is also a very fun and relaxing hobby to me anyway, and it's definitely worth considering for gift-giving ideas! I'm very pleased with the quality, price, ease of use, and look of this kit. Highly recommend!

My son gave me my first book nook kit for Christmas, and I think he created a monster. I'm in love!I got the Law Library because of the quotes on the outside of the nook, and because of its complexity. I love the law. It was part of my life for nearly 30 years, and it's a beautiful thing when it's not abused but applied as it was intended.This was a challenging build, especially the spiral staircase, but the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Were it not for the quality of some of the pieces, like the green banker's lamp, I would have given this book nook 5 stars.The banker's lamp came with a spare part, which is good because the first shade broke off where the shade is scored. The tabs to insert it into the bracket that holds the shade in place are so tiny that they bend and become useless very quickly. The holes these tabs fit into are not holes, but very thin slivers. I almost gave up, but I wound up removing the tabs and glued the shade in place on the bracket.The chair legs are very, very fragile. I had to glue one back together. The other problematic piece was the ceiling lamp on the first floor. Several parts kept falling off when the light was set in place, and in fact, I lost a piece somewhere in a bookcase after the build was completed, making it impossible to retrieve. There are spare parts for this item as well, but there is no way to replace parts when the nook is already together because there is no room to maneuver. Everything is quite compact.It would be nice if items like the banker's lamp were just included already assembled or a small lamp included in place of the banker's lamp. It's too important of a piece to just give up on and leave out.Also, pay close attention to your parts list. I thought I had run out of books, but in actuality, there were more on other boards and they were numbered differently.All that being said, this was a joy to build. I would recommend it, and I would certainly buy it again, in spite of the portrait of RBG (Lol)! I think the finished product is beautiful.

This book nook kit weighs in at ALMOST FOUR POUNDS of detailed wood work, paper details, and the electronics to light it up. It also includes glue, tweezers, glue, and a mini tap hammer to help with construction. This is the third book nook that I have built, and by FAR the most detailed and well designed one so far.This will keep me busy for weeks, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to building it. I'll post more "after" pics when it's completed.
